Essay about Same-Sex Marriage and Adoption Should Be Legal

Same-sex marriage and adoption should be legal, it should be allowed in every state, everywhere. As of 2014, only 17 states have legalized marriage rights to same-sex couples. The other 34 states have banned gay marriage through law, constitutional amendments, or both. For example, the Pennsylvania Governor won’t challenge overturning of same-sex marriage ban. State Attorney General Kathleen Kane has also announced that she will not defend Pennsylvanias same-sex marriage ban because of what she believes is the unconstitutionality of this law. Marriage is a uniquely important institution. Despite all the changes in society, the commitment of two people to each other is still seen as special. Statistics have proven that children grow up better living with two parents of the same sex rather than two of the opposite.(Pappas,1) Some people say that children need a mother and a father to raise children; to provide both viewpoints of gender: masculinity, femininity and all the issues those entail. However, there are many who believe that gender does not matter when parenting. Gay parents tend to be more motivated, more committed than heterosexual parents on average, because they chose to be parents, said Abbie Goldberg, a psychologist at Clark University in Massachusetts who researches gay and lesbian parenting.Over the years, the number of children living with LGBT parents has risen tremendously.
